Owen and Gavin took a bath together the other night and had Valerie & me cracking up with how they kept copying each other. Owen sucked on the washcloth so Gavin stuck one in his mouth. Owen coughed so Gavin coughed. We laughed, so Gavin coughed again, to which Owen copied with a cough of his own. They weren't really looking at each other, more like sitting side by side taking quick glances to see what the other was doing. It was so funny we let them keep going. They were very water logged when we finally took them out of the tub. The whole time, the older kids were waiting patiently naked in the living room.

We call Gavin the Gadget Guy because he is fascinated with anything electronic. Give him any gadget: TV, radio, iPOD, DVD player, etc, and he'll figure out how to turn it on in less than five minutes. Gavin got a hold of my digital camera the other day. I was going to simply delete the pictures he took, but then I got thinking...what if he gets passionate about photography or becomes a professional photographer later in life, won't he want to see his early work? So, here are just a few of the twenty different pictures he took (of the same thing over and over).

"Perspective of a Diaper Bag"
including spare pants and a juice box.

"Belly Shot"
self portrait.

I cut Gavin's hair last night. Up until he turned 2, he let me cut his hair no problem. All I had to do was put Sesame Street on the TV and he'd hold still. Now, though, there is nothing in the world to make him hold still enough. As I get the scissors ready, he's pushing my hands and arms away, squirming to get free of the seat I've buckled him into. It's a real nightmare. So last night I decided to change scenery. We went onto the bathroom counter so he could look in the mirror. This idea worked just long enough for me to make some real progress but he began pushing me away, squirming and trying to throw himself off the counter long before I was done. So, I gave him a bath, put him to bed and finished the haircut while he slept on the carpet in the hallway. It's not the best haircut he's had but it's certainly not the worst. Oh, and he still squirmed in his sleep and a few times I was sure he'd wake up he was getting so mad based on the faces he made as he flailed his arms in front of his face.

With every haircut, he looks more like a little man and less like a toddler.

We were driving around doing our errands and both boys decided to take off their shoes and socks. I'm pretty sure they do that right before we get to where we're going just to tick me off. Anyway, Gavin starts yelling something that sounds like "There are ladders on my foot" and boy was he excited about it. I kept asking him to repeat it because ladders on his foot didn't make sense. Then he excitedly enunciated "There are letters on my foot!" I gave him a nod and a smile to acknowledge him but still had no idea what the heck he was talking about...until I parked the car and went to get Gavin out of his seat. Much to my surprise, as I put his sock on, I saw it. Letters on his foot! He got himself dressed today and must have put his socks on inside out!

We're going to Disneyland again next month. I wonder if you get a different experience of the park from the backseat of the stroller? Gavin has always sat in the front because when Tyler is in front, we can't steer :)

Gracie Dorr came over yesterday as her Nanny is off this week. We took her on a walk to see the cows, which she loved. On the way back, Tyler was running ahead of us, Gavin was taking his sweet time, and Gracie was really lagging in the back. Trying to keep dibs on all three of them, I hollered to her and Gavin to hurry up. Gavin reached back, said "Come on, Grace" and took her hand. I was shocked because he never holds his brother's hand and the only way I can get him to hold my hand when we're crossing the street is by threatening him. They held hands the entire walk from the levy where the cows are to the park. I could tell Gavin loved it because when I mentioned (to no one in particular) I wished I had my camera, he smiled at me and said "Yeah. Me too."

I've been teaching Gavin how to introduce himself. We roleplay. He loves this. I stick my hand out and say "My name is mommy, what's your name?" and he replies "Gavin." Then I say the question everyone always asks him "How old are you?" and he says what he hears his brother say "three and a half." Identity crisis?

When the kids used to drive to the Pocket area with me every morning, we'd make a big deal about passing the water tower with the big flag on top of it. First I taught them the Pledge of Allegiance and then I taught them the Grand Ol' Flag song. Nowadays, whenever Gavin sees a flag anywhere, he gasps "Hiiihhhuuuh there's a Grand Old Flag!" Last night we were cleaning his room and he found this little plastic toy that is neither red, white nor blue but is shaped like a flag and Gavin shrieked again saying he found a Grand Old Flag.
