The boys returned to Kindercare yesterday. I wasn't sure if Gavin understood what I was talking about when I started telling him we'd go there on Tuesday. It's hard to know how much he really comprehends and how much he's just going with the flow, letting Tyler do the talking. He was great at drop off and even happier at pick up. He did not want to leave. When I told him it was time to go home he said "No Mom. I want to stay here." That makes me feel like I definitely am making the right decision forking out the big bucks to send them there.
On our way home, I tried asking the boys what they did, what they ate, who they played with. Tyler would answer every question, even the ones directed at Gavin. "Yes, Gavin did go outside. I saw him there." and "I ate fish sticks for lunch so Gavin must have had them too." Really wanting to get a read out of how Gavin felt about Kindercare, I asked Gavin who he played with. "I don't know." This became his answer to every question, what's his teacher's name, what songs did he sing, did he take a nap? He didn't know anything. I was just about to give up when Gavin declared loudly "I was being silly." and that vague sentence means a lot more than you might think. Those aren't words Gavin would normally use. I'm sure his teachers were telling him he was being silly, and he was passing that information along to me. Progress with communication. But now I'm wondering if I've got a class clown on my hands.

I baked cookies last night. This morning, Gavin woke up before anyone else. He's been going into the office, putting on a DVD and watching TV until we wake up. But today I woke up to the sound of the Shrek menu repeating over and over. I found him laying on the guest bed in the fetal position, holding a cookie in one hand and the baggie of cookies in the other hand. The night before, that baggie had at least six cookies but this morning, there were only two half-eaten cookies left in the bag. Nice breakfast. I just finished stripping the crumby sheets off that bed and found two more cookies full of divots where the chocolate chips were.

Gavin has most words nailed. But one word that he consistently gets backwards is forgot. Instead, he says "got for" (get it, it's backwards). So silly. "Mom, we got for my blanket," he says on our way out the door to daycare. Yesterday we had to go to take Shawn a lunch because he forgot his wallet. This morning, Gavin woke Shawn up saying "Daddy don't get for your wallet today." Hehehehe I don't correct it because it's so cute. Does that make me a bad parent?

Watch this! Those are pirate hats and that's a pirate parrot on Gavin's shoulder. Tyler's parrot popped.
