We've been swimming a lot lately since it's scorching hot here. Gavin is a really strong, fast swimmer. In fact, I have a feeling he's going to put it all together before Tyler does. Tyler's very close too, but when he can't reach the bottom on his tippy toes, he goes straight down and stays there. But Gavin sinks and then comes up for air on his own, kicking and paddling. It's fun going to the pool with the whole family because the ratio of adult to child is equal. But when it's just me and the boys, it is hard work. Plus I'm a nervous wreck. Luckily our gym has lifeguards on duty which is a especially reassuring now that I can no longer convince the boys that the wading pool is just as fun as the big pool.
We hang out near the stairs and then they take turns swimming out to me, then back to the stairs. Gavin loves to stick his head under water, dive toward the bottom and float back up. Problem is, I never know if he's drowning or if he's going to come up on his own so he gets mad at me when I push him up. Next time I think I'll teach him how to do the OK sign underwater. They can both hold their breath for a long time if they try. In the bathtub the other night, I counted 30 seconds before they came up! Anyway, our little Mr. Independent Gavin did a sommersault in the pool on his own. He went down for a dive but kept going, flipped and came up for air screaming because he got water in his nose. But still, a sommersault? He's a fish!

We went to Disneyland! Our 4th trip in 13 months. Such lucky boys. Gavin still doesn't like to get near the characters, but at least he no longer screams when he sees them. He likes to chill in his stroller and look at them from a distance. He loved going on the Jungle Cruise, Monsters Inc. 3 times, Astro Blasters countless times, and of course all the usual stuff like Dumbo, Tea Cups, etc. It was so fun. Gavin was so good. And the great news is I'm positive that the next time we go, he'll be tall enough to ride on all the other rides like Splash Mountain, Soaring, etc. He was soooo close to 40". In fact, I think he'll be the one wanting to go on those while we have to drag Tyler on them. I asked Gavin what he wants to do for his birthday and he told me he wants to go to Disneyland. After 4 days there, I don't think I have it in me to go back that soon.

Suddenly Gavin is getting freckles. It started with his swimming lessons a few weeks ago. Last week when I picked him up from preschool, he literally got a new freckle on his face during the 8 hours he was there. In the bath last night, I counted three new ones on his back and shoulders that weren't there a couple weeks ago. Now Tyler is jealous and wants freckles too, so he got a hold of a pen and plotted some on himself. Gavin saw this, got a hold of a sharpie and colored all over his tummy. It took 3 days to get that off.
